43rd Ward Aldermanic Runoff Forum

If you want additional information about the candidates for 43rd Ward Alderman before voting in the April 2, 2019 election, we have just the event for you.  Please join us for an exciting, enlightening evening at the Aldermanic Runoff Forum on Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m. We know the questions the candidates will be asked are ones that attendees want answered because all questions will be submitted in advance by registered guests for this event.
 
The forum, sponsored by Gold Coast Neighbors Association, will be hosted by the Ambassador Chicago Hotel and will be held in the hotel’s second-floor conference room. The forum moderator will be GCNA Board Member Carla Walker.  Because of this aldermanic event, Booth One Restaurant, located on the first floor of the hotel, will extend its 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. happy hour menu until 9:00 p.m.

Both candidates have been invited to participate:

Derek Lindblom  Derek Lindblom served as an adviser to Senator Chuck Schumer on the Judiciary Committee in the United States Senate on gun violence prevention and civil and women’s rights, then as Chief of Staff on Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Economic Council where he protected taxpayers by cutting redundant government programs and negotiating on the city’s biggest financial challenges, including pensions. In the private sector, Derek helped launch successful technology startups dedicated to helping people with health care and chronic diseases, like diabetes, creating hundreds of jobs. In his community, he is Membership Director of Wrightwood Neighbors.

Michele Smith  Michele Smith is serving her second term as 43rd Ward Alderman. A lawyer, Michele prosecuted white-collar crime and political corruption cases from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She then became General Counsel for the Engine Group at Navistar International. She returned to public service in 2011 as 43rd Ward Alderman and was reelected in 2015. She co-founded the Women’s March and led City Council efforts to get Governor Rauner to sign HB40 to protect a woman’s right to choose. A former federal prosecutor, safety is an important priority to her. She worked to get 100 new police officers, expanding the police presence in our community.
