Learn what makes Chicago’s history and its personality so unique during an intimate tour of the Jaffee History Trail. The recently reopened History Trail, located in Lincoln Park behind the Chicago History Museum, explores various aspects of Chicago’s history and tells its story.

The tour is especially informative because it is limited to a maximum of 15 attendees, affording the opportunity to interact with tour guide, historian, Chicago History Museum docent, Gold Coast resident, and GCNA member Scottie Perry. Questions and comments are obligatory!

Located in the 4.5-acre park space behind the Chicago History Museum, the trail weaves through an area once inhabited by the indigenous peoples of the Potawatomi tribe. Among the stops along the trail are:

• A seven-ton hunk of melted metal that is the remains of a hardware store burned in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871
• The flowering indigenous plant that inspired Chicago’s name
• The Children’s Fountain, dedicated to the city’s children by Mayor Jane Byrne
• The commanding presence of the statue of Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln Park’s namesake
