3Arts Begins The Legacy Project
In the fall of 2005, High Tea was served at the 3Arts facility bringing together supporters, neighbors, and others with vested interest to celebrate the transformation of the organization and its historic building into a world-class center for the arts.
The Legacy Project encompasses two initiatives while restoring and renovating the Chicago landmark building. One aspect of the changes will continue the 3Arts’ original purpose of housing artists and expand that mission to foster their development by connecting them with a vibrant arts center. The renovation will convert the 100 dormitory rooms on the upper floors into 36 distinctive, affordable apartments and three visiting artist suites.

In addition to the residential changes, the second initiative affects the public levels of the 3Arts building. Its purpose will accommodate classes and performances in the three art forms that inspired the name – music, theatre, and visual arts. This space will include a mixed media studio, a versatile exhibition area, and a multi-purpose hall. The lower level will be renovated to house five soundproof music practice rooms, a photography studio and darkroom, a ceramics studio and kiln, and a versatile black box theatre with seating for up to 108 people.

Legacy members are Suzette Bross Bulley, John Holabird, Jr., Katharine Holabird, Abby McCormick O’Neil, Abra Prentice Wilkin, and Barbara Wood Prince. A Campaign Committee is currently being formed.
