GCNA Committees

Gold Coast Neighbors Association is comprised of a number of active committees with on-going projects and areas of responsibility. Members of the Board of Directors chair these committees, which are listed below. Contact us at info@goldcoastneighbors.org if you would like to volunteer.

GCNA Committees

Beautification Committee

  • Assist with beautification of Goudy Park Parkways
  • Flower plantings at various mail boxes throughout the neighborhood
  • Beautification Awards

Spring Benefit Committee

  • Plans our annual spring fundraiser
  • Solicits sponsors and donors of goods and services
  • Makes arrangements for venue, invitation, food and beverage, entertainment, etc.
  • Assists with event set-up, guest check-in, and post-event activities as needed

Evening on Astor Annual Block Party Committee

  • Plans Evening on Astor, the annual block party, hosted by our organization since 1982
  • Volunteer to secure raffle prizes, distribute flyers, sell tickets, help with set-up or take down on the day of the event or coordinate our student helpers

History and Education Committees

  • Researches the history of the neighborhood streets, structures and people for inclusion in newsletters and website articles. Establishes liaison with the Chicago History Museum, the Chicago Architecture Foundation, or other area organizations to locate historic information

Membership Committee

  • Identifies and evaluates initiatives designed to build and retain membership
  • Design and implement membership drives and mailings
  • Monitors membership statistics
  • Examines, on a broad level, how GCN activities and policies impact enrollment and retention of members

Outreach Committee

  • Researches organizations within or near our area that have compatible missions with ours for possible donations
  • Establish contact with Chicago Police, Fire, and Dept. of Aging to inquire about specific needs
  • Establish communication with Chicago Public Schools in GCN area to inquire about specific needs

Police and Streets Committee

  • Liaison with the 18th District Police Station and 42nd and 43rd Ward Aldermanic offices
  • Liaison with Chicago's Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) and attend CAPS meetings
  • Monitors Permit Parking and Rodent Program

Communications/Public Relations Committee

  • Publicity and News Coverage for our Association
  • Coordinate content with Newsletter and Website committees

Zoning Committee

  • Attends City of Chicago zoning and planning meetings
  • Liaison to Near North Preservation Council
  • Monitors activity in the neighborhood, including signage and fencing
  • Reviews proposed projects in the area for the Landmark Commission of Chicago

Annual Meeting Committee

  • Identifies and obtains commitment from appropriate keynote speakers
  • Identifies potential location for the event and makes necessary arrangements
  • Arranges for food and beverage service
  • Assists with room set-up and guest check-in

Bylaws Committee

  • Monitors Association's compliance with GCN bylaws
  • Makes suggestions to GCN board regarding necessary updates
  • Drafts changes to bylaws as requested by GCN board

Goudy Parkways Committee

  • Monitors condition of parkways
  • Assists with ongoing fundraising efforts to maintain parkways
  • Provides oversight of contractors involved in parkway maintenance

Ghouly Halloween Committee

  • Identify possible entertainment, corporate sponsors, and donors for event
  • Coordinate with Chicago Park District, Chicago Police Department, and nearby buildings
  • Assist with event set-up and/or clean up
  • Greet guests, pass out candy

Newsletter Committee

  • Identify potential content and contributors
  • Assist with editing, photograph and graphic design
  • Monitor to ensure that newsletter content is consistent with web content

Website Committee

  • Post updates to website as they are available
  • Monitor website to ensure that content is consistent with newsletter and other GCN materials
  • Identify and evaluate new Web resources and technology that might be efficient, cost-effective and useful for GCN
